Do you like old maps? NYPL has an excellent digital archive of old maps of New York City. While you are there, be sure to check out the previously mentioned amazing photographs of 1930′s New York City.
Did you know you can take a look behind the scenes of the NYPL digital archive? Just like google, they have a lab where they research and develop new projects and features.
Finally, if you are a real map aficionado check out the always interesting Strange Maps blog. I highly recommend it.

For at least the past 60 years, on Edgar Allan Poe’s birthday, a mysterious man would leave a bouquet of roses and a bottle of cognac at his grave. Each and every year, except this year! Fascinating.
In this 1972 picture book author Geoffrey Hoyle envisions what life will be like in the far of future, the year 2010! Surprisingly he is not far off in the “vision phone” department, the other ideas are a bit wilder, and sadly we never seem to get to a point in the future where we all wear jumpsuits.

The New York Times has this handy dandy chart of all the things from the past decade.
This video is a great mix of computer generated animation mixed with physical printouts and real-world manipulation of said printouts. The result is amazing texture. Check out how it was made and also the rest of Ducroz’s amazing portfolio.

It’s nice to look at photos of your parents when they were young, and try to imagine what their lives were like. Often times you figure out how cool and awesome they were back then. The my parents were awesome blog collects all the photographic proof of people’s parents being awesome in one spot.
